Juveniles Charged with Firearm Possession

During the evening of Thursday, September 12th, the Murray Police Department was made aware of a juvenile possibly possessing a firearm while on school property earlier that week. After obtaining the information Murray Police Department detectives began an investigation into the validity of the claim.

During the investigation detectives spoke with multiple subjects and narrowed the incident down to two juveniles who were involved. It was learned that one juvenile had stolen a firearm from the residence of a relative in Graves County. The juvenile then left the firearm in the vehicle which was parked on the campus of Murray High School. Later that afternoon, after school had let out, the juvenile in possession of the firearm gave the firearm to a friend to sell.  Both juveniles were charged with receiving stolen property (firearm), a class D felony, and unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, also a class D felony.

The Murray Police Department and the Murray Independent School District want to make all families aware that there was no danger to students during school and that the firearm was never brought into the school building. The Murray Police Department would also like to make families aware that if a firearm or any type of illegal weapon is brought onto a school campus the individual will be charged to the fullest extent of the law.
