The Murray Independent School District hosted the Region One Kentucky Board Association (KSBA) meeting at the Spring Hill Suites Chestnut Room.  Shawn Smee, KSBA First Region Director and MISD Board member, served as the chair of the event. KSBA was established in 1936 and represents 857 school board members from across the Commonwealth to provide superior service, support, and training, aiding in the effort of providing the best education possible for public school students across Kentucky.

Smee said it’s always nice when you can connect with other school board members in the area and learn more about innovative ways to support our school districts. “We are very fortunate to have KSBA to help us in advocating for public education and for policies and programs that will benefit students throughout the Commonwealth.”

After Sirloin Stockade catered meal, board members participating through the end of the program received 75 minutes of credit toward the annual state-required training, as well as credit for regional meeting attendance in the KSBA Academy of Studies.

Attendees received important updates from KSBA leadership, a rundown of how local issues are addressed at the state association level, 2025 legislative issues survey results and more. Back by popular demand, KSBA facilitated interactive roundtable discussions, providing members with an opportunity to discuss local concerns and share ideas with fellow members and KSBA staff.

The following school districts were in attendance: Ballard County, Calloway County, Crittenden County, Graves County, Marshall County, Lyon County, Livingston County, McCracken County, and Murray Independent.
