The MISD is appreciative of the continued efforts by The Murray Police Department to upgrade security at each respective MISD Campus. We are grateful for our MISD Resource Officers, Jeremy Partin (MES), Patrick Morris (MMS), and Mike Ray (MHS), for providing our daily protection.
The Murray Police Department has enhanced officer safety and school protection through state grant funding—without using City of Murray general fund dollars. Through the Kentucky Attorney General’s Body Armor Grant Program, MPD received hard armor plates, ballistic helmets, and three ballistic shields, one placed at each Murray Independent School. School Resource Officers also received specialized training in their use.
Additional funding from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security’s Law Enforcement Protection Program allowed MPD to purchase new duty weapons equipped with optics and weapon-mounted lights. In total, more than $145,000 in critical safety equipment was secured at no cost to the city, reinforcing MPD’s commitment to public safety and fiscal responsibility.

Bob Horne, former Murray Middle School principal who retired in 2025, has been named the 2025-2026 KMEA (Kentucky Music Educators Association) KMEA State Administrator of the Year. Horne received the KMEA District 1 award for 2024-25, making him eligible for the statewide 2025-26 award.
The award recognizes and thanks administrators for emphasizing and valuing their institution's music programs. It is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to music education in Kentucky, both at the K-12 and collegiate levels. The award is presented at the KMEA annual conference, along with other recognitions for students, faculty, and alumni.
Horne will be presented the award during the 2026 KMEA Conference Awards Ceremony, Friday, February 6, 2026, on the Upper Concourse stage at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville.

Murray Elementary School third grade students led the Winter Market: a hands-on, student-led event that brought classroom learning to life.
Throughout the market, the third graders took on real-world roles such as producers and business managers while applying key economic concepts including decision-making, product production, and advertising.
From planning and creating products to earning and spending ‘Market Pawsitives,’ students led every aspect of the experience and had so much fun creating things for all MES students.

Tiger Christmas is wrapping up as over 200 families and 400 students will experience a Christmas this Holiday season. Melissa Durham, Family Resource Youth Service Center (FRYSC) Director, and Andrea Morris, The Den Services, have collaborated this effort with community support from businesses, individuals, and area churches. Their passion is seen behind the scenes as they provide the gift of giving to our Tigers to ensure they celebrate Christmas with their families.
Throughout the heart felt giving to our families and students, there were numerous donations brought in to assist. We thank Flowers By Whitney $500 Donation, and the $1,000 donation from FNB Bank, Inc. Monty McCuiston's Towinng For Toys Program is ongoing throughout the year and creates a foundation block for the annual program.
Numerous donors assist the progrram, whom we call our heroes and we send our deep appreciation!!

During a special presentation at the Calloway County Judicial’s Building Annex , Calloway County Judge Executive Kenny Imes recognized Melvin Cunningham, MHS Football Coach, and the 2025 MHS Football Team for their incredible Football Season.

Antonia Faulkner, Calloway County Clerk-read the following resolution recognizing the Murray High School Football Team’s historic winning season:
WHEREAS, the Murray High School Tiger football team achieved historic athletic excellence and had an incredible 2025 season, going undefeated (14-0) through the regular season and playoffs, becoming District & Region Champions, and reaching the KHSAA Class 3A State Championship final, where they finished as State Runner-Ups against Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL); and
WHEREAS, while being led by Coach Melvin Cunningham and Player of the Year Wyatt Robbins, they made their first state title appearance in 31 years and completed the season with a 14-1 record, which has never been done before in the history of Murray High School; and
WHEREAS, the players, coaches, support staff, and the entire Murray High School community worked relentlessly — both on and off the field — demonstrating remarkable resilience, dedication, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance to showcase a dominant season with high-scoring wins and overcame adversity to reach the pinnacle of high school football; and
WHEREAS, this accomplishment not only reflects the athletic skill of the team, but also brings tremendous pride to the students, faculty, alumni, families, and residents of Calloway County and the surrounding region; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Murray High School Tigers serves as an inspiration to everyone and stands as a powerful example of what can be accomplished through hard work, unity, and a commitment to excellence;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Calloway County Fiscal Court does hereby congratulate and commend the Murray High School football team for their examplary 2025 season and celebrate the honor they have brought to the school tradition and this community. We also encourage continued excellence in athletics, academics, and the arts, trusting that the example set by this team will resonate among current and future students.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be presented to the school and that this recognition be entered into the official documents of the Calloway County Fiscal Court for historic record.

Celebrating the MSU Lady Racers win over Memphis during Education Day at the CFSB Center was a memorable day for our students.
Murray Elementary and Murray Middle school fifth and sixth grade students rode buses over to be a part of the regional and community Education Day Celebration.
Dr. David Meinschein, Ed.D., MISD Superintendent, joined the students to celebrate the blue and gold. MSU Lady Racers defeated Memphis in a 85-57 victory.
During half-time the Murray Elementary School kindergarten students sang Christmas Carols to the audience.

Murray High School announced twenty-three Murray High School band students have been selected for the 2025 All-District Concert Band. These students earned their spots through a rigorous blind audition process held at Mayfield High School, where they prepared two audition excerpts, performed scales, and completed a sight-reading assessment. They competed against talented musicians from across District 1.
The following Murray High School students were selected to represent our program in this prestigious ensemble: Arlo Vance-2nd chair flute, Miranda Mathis, 3rd chair flute, Olivia McLaughlin-first chair oboe, Sumin Park-4th chair clarinet, Nobu Tomonaga-first chair alto sax, Bentley Gile-2nd chair alto sax, Jacob Ridley-1st alternate alto sax, Jonathan Clements-1st chair tenor sax, Brandon Draper-3rd chair tenor sax, James Duffy-1st alternate tenor sax, Dwi Marjadi-1st alternate bari sax, Luke Sloan-5th chair trumpet, Megumi Tomona-10th chair trumpet, Susie Todd-11th chair trumpet, Jeremiah Miller-3rd chair french horn, Analise Renfroe-8th chair french horn, Stella Swaggart-1st chair trombone, Aiden Castleberry-3rd chair euphonium, Ginny Chipman-6th chair tuba, Anna Wilson-1st chair mallets, Sasha Patel-2nd chair snare, Sophia Smith-2nd alternate snare.
