Tonight the Murray High Tigers face third round of playoffs in an undefeated season. We send a huge thanks to Murray Ledger and Times Sports Writer Jon Wright for a black and gold tribute in today's Murray Ledger and Times. Remembering our history, our footbal state Championship Alumni who visited our team back in September was a wonderful reminder of the significant Football Tiger Tradition we hold dear to our hearts! Thanks Jon Wright!

Jon Wright--- Tonight, Murray High will face a state power in Lexington Catholic as it tries to reach the sub-state round of the Kentucky State Football Playoffs for the first time since 2020.
This is the first time this has happened in Class 3A, where the Tigers were placed ahead of this season. All of the other seasons for Tiger football were spent in either 2A or A.
When four members of the Murray High 1974 State Championship Football team came to talk to the current team ahead of its homecoming game back in September, the occasion produced this moment in the locker room of the John Hina Fieldhouse where the current and former players posed with matching jersey numbers. On the front row, from far left, were: Mark Bradey assistant coach on the ’74 team, Gage Chapman, (current running back/linebacker—20); Dale McCuiston (’74 starting defensive back 20); Craig Suiter (’74 starting lineman—75); Ryan Walls (current starting lineman—75); Steve Porter (’74 starting lineman—73); Jaden McGehee (current starting lineman—73); Doug Shelton (’74 starting running back/defensive back—24) and Jordan Westbrook (current starting defensive back—24).

Murray Independent School District recognized the first recipients of the newly established Tiger Pride Award during the November MISD Board meeting. Created to recognize one staff member and one educator each month who exemplify exceptional service, character, and commitment to MISD students and community, honorees are nominated by their peers, with nominations highlighting the meaningful impact each individual has on their school.

November’s Tiger Pride Staff Award was presented to Crista Jennings, attendance clerk at Murray Elementary School. Known for her warmth, compassion, and unwavering dedication, Jennings is often described as the welcoming face of the school. She consistently makes students, families, volunteers, and colleagues feel valued and supported, demonstrating servant leadership in all she does.

John Karanja, English teacher at Murray High School was recognized as November’s Tiger Pride Educator Award. For more than 20 years, Karanja has influenced generations of students not only through outstanding instruction but also by modeling kindness, sincerity, and genuine care for others. His thoughtful teaching, deep relationships with students, and ongoing support for colleagues make him a beloved and respected presence within the district.

MISD also recognizes and appreciates the support of local business partner Christy Seavers of Sonic, who joined the celebration to provide merchandise and special offers in honor of this month’s recipients.

The Tiger Pride Award reflects MISD’s commitment to celebrating excellence, dedication, and the everyday actions that make our schools welcoming, engaging, and successful places for students to learn and grow. #murrayschools

Murray High School junior, Franklin Civitella, led an after-school Italian Heritage cooking class for MHS Multicultural Club members. The club provided bread with olive oil and herbs for dipping as an appetizer along with Caesar salad. Civitella instructed basic kitchen rules and presentation of the dishes, modeling what each group would be doing. Students learned how to make pasta from homemade dough and added their own filling to make ravioli. Upon completion, students enjoyed their own work topped with pesto, parmesan, and fresh parsley. Civitella served his premade tiramisu for dessert.

Civitella is an Area Technology Culinary Student who is passionate about cooking, sharing his skills with others, and pursuing this as a career.

Carley Alexander, MHS Spanish instructor, is the MHS Multicultural Club sponsor.
