The Murray High School Chapter of Educators Rising attended the Regional Conference at Murray State University. Students competed in events related to a future teaching career and attended breakout sessions about issues and best practices related to education today.
MHS seniors, Bria Stiff and Caroline Tompkins, competed in the Educators Rising Moment competition, during which they gave a speech explaining why they want to become a teacher and who/what personally influenced that decision.
Brandon Daughaday placed third in the Job Interview competition.
Emerson Smee and Journie Merriss designed an Interactive Bulletin Board to assist Kindergarten students work on CVC words and rhyming. Madelyn Sugg created an Interactive Bulletin Board to help elementary students with addition and subtraction using ten frames and eventually only numbers/symbols.
Sarah Hultman, MHS math teacher, is the MHS Educators Rising advisor.

Since 2018, Emily Chipman’s Murray High School art students have been collaborating an artistic project with Murray Elementary School students.
Murray Elementary School students use their imaginations to describe a creature. These written assignments, that include a drawing, are then forwarded to MHS art students. Using stitching, patterns, and sewing skills, the high school students create a creature for the elementary school students.
“This is our favorite art project of the year because we learn a practical skill, sewing, while making something special for another person. We personally deliver the creatures to the students and that human connection makes it meaningful and special,” said Chipman. #murrayschools

Sherry Purdom, Community Education Director, and Layla Gibson, an MHS senior and Area Technology Carpentry Student, discussed the upcoming Mistletoe Marketplace November 22-23 today on Mornings on WNBS. Held at the Area Technology Center, the event is a branch of the MKY Cares committee. Over40 regional vendors providing baked goods, jewelry, crafts, student crafted items, and holiday decor will be on hand.
Area Technology Students will also be on hand with their hand-made items from each ATC Department.
We invite the community to visit next Satruday and Sunday. Saturday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), Sunday (1 to 5 p.m.)
Food Trucks will be on hand. Musical performances by the Calloway and Murray choirs as well as visits and pictures with Santa. #murrayschools
Sending Tiger Roars to our Murray High School Band as they travel to Indianapolis to perform Bands of America (BOA) Competition. Named the BOA Class A National Champion in both 2021 and 2024, the MHS Band will performtheir show “From Dusk 'til Dawn,” with their 124-member group this weekend in at the competition.
We send our sincere appreciation to the Calloway County Chamber of Commerce for a great Salute to Schools luncheon. Hosted by The Murray Insurance Agency, the event spotlighted both Murray and Calloway County students. The event featured a Welcome and Veteran Appreciation, Pledge of Allegiance, Choir Performance, Student Speeches, LIFT Graduation Presentation, and school updates from Superintendents: Dr. David Meinschein, Ed.D., (MISD), Tres Settle (CCSD), and Dan Hicks (ATC Principal).

The Murray Middle School 7th and 8th grade delegation had an exceptional showing at the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA), a statewide program that brings students together to serve as youth legislators, debating bills, running for offices, and learning firsthand about Kentucky’s government and civic process.
MMS students represented their school with confidence, leadership, and strong civic engagement, earning Premier Delegation status for their outstanding performance throughout the conference.
Several students received special recognition for their exemplary work. Devanshi Shastri and Laurel Johnson were selected as Outstanding Speakers by school advisors from across the state, highlighting their strength in public speaking and advocacy. Additionally, Adalyn Tucker was honored with the Outstanding Delegate Award, recognizing her leadership, preparation, and overall excellence. Tucker was recommended by her advisors, Heidi Mallory and Krista Fielder.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for representing Murray Middle School at such a high level. Their accomplishments reflect their dedication, talent, and commitment to making a positive impact,” said Heidi Mallory, MMS 6-8 Assistant Principal and KYA advisor.

Murray Middle School fifth graders attended a DARE Program Graduation Ceremony inside MMS Auditorium as a conclusion to the ten-week course. The Murray Police Department provided a pizza party, shirts, and certificates to the students.
SRO Patrick Morris conducted a ten-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) class with all fifth-grade student classes. Communication skills and confidence building are the main components of the sessions. Life Skills, Peer Pressure, and Stressful Situations are also recognized.
Morris said the DARE program is beneficial in molding the next generation ‘s responsible decision making.
