For a group of Murray Middle School eighth graders, history leapt off the page as they explored the nation’s capital on a school trip packed with monuments, museums, and memories. More than 30 students from MMS traveled to Washington, D.C., for a four-day educational adventure that brought classroom lessons to life. Accompanied by teachers and parent chaperones, students visited iconic landmarks including the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Smithsonian museums. Students began their journey with a guided tour of the National Mall, marveling at the towering Washington Monument and reflecting on Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. At Arlington National Cemetery, many were moved during the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The Community Education Advisory Council (CEAC) has announced the MKY Cares Mistletoe Market Place will be hosted Saturday, November 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Murray Calloway County Area Technology Center, 126 Robertson Road North, Murray. This new holiday event is hosted by the Community Education Advisory Council and is now accepting vendor applications. Prior to COVID, the Ricky Lamkin MKY Cares Auction was slated to kick off to support non-profits in the community to honor the late Ricky Lamkin who passed in 2019. Lamkin was a passionate MKY Cares board member who believed in launching the MKY Cares Auction for the betterment of the community. However, after Lamkin’s death and a pause when the COVID pandemic forced the cancellation, the MKY Cares Mistletoe Market Place will now move forward with the same primary mission to aid non-profits and include student groups from Murray and Calloway County schools. The mission of MKY Cares is to solicit and receive contributions and distribute these funds to charitable organizations in Murray/Calloway Community for the purpose of increasing involvement and enhancing the services provided by these agencies. For more information and full story visit http://bit.ly/43PqNGE , and to register a vendor commitment please scan the QR Code to save your vendor spot or visit the MKY Cares Facebook page. For more information, and a vendor application contact krystal.johnson@murray.kyschools.us, sherry.purdom@murray.kyschools.us or lisa.hays@calloway.kyschools.us. #murrayschools

During the Murray/Calloway Area Technology Camp there were 49 6th-9th grade Murray and Calloway school students who attended Electrical, Carpentry, Welding, Machine Tool, Culinary Arts, and Nursing Classes. A complimentary camp hosted by the ATC instructors provided a hands on opportunity for students to gain a broader understanding of the skills and education needed when pursuing these as careers. #murrayschools

Haley Burchett, Murray High School Geometry teacher, received the Main Impact Teacher Grant, providing students in her MHS Honors Geometry classes the opportunity to build kites. During the project, students measured the perimeter of the kite to determine the amount of string needed to secure the base of their kite, then measured the amount of table cloth needed for the surface area of the kites by dilating the frame of their kite. After crafting their kites, students analyzed properties of quadrilaterals by measuring the side lengths and angles of their kites. #murrayschools
