The “Celebrating Black History Month: Representing Leadership, Education and Commitment.” event will begin at 2 p.m. with a Meet and Greet Reception at 1:30 p.m. The community is invited to attend.
Dr. Ron K. Patterson joined Murray State University as president on July 1, 2025. He was unanimously selected by the Board of Regents and members of the Presidential Search Committee following a comprehensive nationwide search. With more than two decades of leadership experience in higher education, he is committed to expanding academic initiatives, advancing student success, and cultivating collaborative partnerships on and off campus.
President Patterson believes that higher education is about relationships, resilience, and realization. His interactions with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, legislators and friends of the university fosters collaboration, inspires partnerships, and continues the tradition of Murray State University, the finest place we know.

Murray Middle School fifth grade math teachers, Taylor Garland, and Jarrod Darnall, implemented the fifth grade Math Student of the Month Recognition this year. After being awarded a grant from the MISD Foundation For Excellence, these math teachers have recognized 30 students since the beginning of school, with six being recognized each month.
This outstanding math student criteria includes participation in class discussion, completing assigned work and extension work, demonstrating the TIGER traits, and showing improvement in any of these areas.
Students have their photo taken for the bulletin board recognition and receive a yard sign to display in their yard for the month. Garland and Darnall also reach out to parents with a positive message.

Martin accumulated 2167 receiving yards and 29 touchdown receptions in his Tiger career, along with several highlight reel level plays, helping Murray to a 14-1 record and a spot in the 3A State Championship game.

Congratulations to Murray High School senior, Bria Stiff, signing with Asbury University Women’s Eagles Soccer Program, a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA D-III) National Christian school.
A four-year member of the MHS Girls’ Soccer Team, Bria signed a letter of intent inside the Murray High School Library. During Bria’s MHS career, her team’s record was 53-25-3, and she scored 66 goals and 48 assists during her high school career A three-time All Region Team Honoree, Bria was an integral part of the team’s two All-A Region titles, 2-A Section title, two District Championships, and two Region Finalists.
Asbury University is a private Christian university in Wilmore, Kentucky, United States. The school offers 50-plus majors across 17 departments.
During the signing, Bria’s family was on hand, her parents, Brandi and Ray Stiff, her brother, Jack, and her grandmother Janice Kendall, and Doug Stiff, grandfather. MHS Girl’s Soccer Team members were on hand, as well as MHS Coaches, Michael Mangold, Lyndey Mangold, and Darren Jones. Todd Stewart and Eric Jacobs, Bria’s coaches from her PUMA travelling team were also on hand. #murrayschools

Murray Independent will be back in school on Monday, February 2nd.
The majority of roads in the city are cleared and will allow our buses to transport students safely. Our transportation staff will be out today checking routes and roads. If buses are unable to pick up your child/children, we will contact you and work to provide alternative transportation.
Murray community - please be mindful of our buses on the roads on Monday and make room for them on roads that are not fully cleared.
