Spring Murray Independent School District Volunteer Training Dates

All volunteers are required to complete yearly confidentiality trainings and submit a new volunteer form.

Each volunteer is required to become approved. This mandates a state-background check.

There is a suggested $10 donation fee to perform the background check,. Once the background check is received and approved the background check remains on file five years until another check is required. Remember all volunteers must be approved to attend field trips.

To ensure elgibility in year-end activities for volunteers, these two in-person volunteer trainings have been scheduled.
Please mark these dates on your calendar to attend a training for 2026 year.
(The online training is still available. For information on the online email sherry.purdom@murray.kyschools.us).

Good afternoon,

Due to inclement weather, tomorrow, January 28th will be NTI day 3. The sun was helpful today but not enough to have school tomorrow. I appreciate the efforts of our maintenance dept as well as the city, county, and state road workers in clearing the facilities and roads.

Leadership Tomorrow's 41 junior and senior MHS and CCHS students attended Law and Government Day.

The group was welcomed by Melinda Starks, Calloway County Circuit Court Clerk in the Judicial Building. While there, Judge David Buckingham-former Justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court, Judge Andrea Moore-42nd Circuit Court Judge, Bryan Ernstberger-Calloway County Attorney, and Chris Hendricks-Attorney-Running for District Judge, spoke to the group. The group then visited Murray’s City Hall and met with Murray Mayor Bob Rogers. During lunch at Pagliari’s guest speakers: Murray Police Chief Sam Bierds, Nicky Knight-Calloway County Sheriff, and Eric Phelps, the Murray Fire Department, talked to the group about their roles in the community and career opportunities. The day concluded with a tour of the Calloway County Jail with Ken Claud, Jailer, and his employees.

Leadership Tomorrow has been a viable program for the past 30 plus years. The group meets once a month for community-based outings including Law/Government, Agriculture, Arts, Community Resources, Health, and Business Industry Days. As a culmination event, the group travels to Washington, D.C., and students create a service project, as well as a fund-raising initiative to assist the community, and generate funds for their trip. (March 4-8, 2026, is the group’s annual trip to Washington, D.C. ). #murrayschools

Patrick Morris, Safety Resource Officer (SRO), is seen (photo one) in the Murray Elementary School hallway with students during a tornado drill. Students are also seen in other emergency drill exercises.

David McDowell, Murray Independent School District Director of Pupil Personnel (DPP), said school Districts across the state are required to practice monthly emergency drills to ensure that students and staff know exactly what to do in an emergency. “Our goal is every student, safe and sound, every day,” he said.

All MISD students practice tornado, earthquake, lock-down, and fire drills based on the Kentucky Department of Education's state mandates.
