Area realtors with the Murray-Calloway County Board of Realtors (MCCBR) toured the Murray Elementary School as a part of their community school tours.

The MCCBR community school tours are a part of the group’s mission to provide education and professional development opportunities throughout the year. To enhance their mission and convey education opportunities to future homeowners, the group will also visit Murray Middle, Murray High, and the Area Technology Center in the next few months.

During the tour conducted by Denise Whitaker, MES principal, the group toured classrooms and an overview of the future Murray Elementary School was provided.

At the end of the tours the group will have visited nine schools in the Murray and Calloway County school districts. #murrayschools

During the January MISD Board Meeting senior members of the Murray Tiger Band were recognized on behalf of the group's incredible 2025 marching season. The Murray Tiger Band experienced one of the most successful years in program history this past fall with 124 students, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to excellence, teamwork, and school pride.

The season began with tremendous momentum as the band earned Grand Champion honors at Franklin-Simpson High School, followed by another Grand Championship at the Christian County Competition. Continuing a tradition of excellence, the Murray Tiger Band captured its sixth consecutive Festival of Champions Grand Championship, a remarkable achievement that reflects sustained excellence at the highest level.

At postseason events, the band placed second at the KMEA Class 3A West Quarterfinals and went on to earn its third consecutive KMEA Class 3A State Championship. The season concluded on the national stage, where the Murray Tiger Band earned an impressive third-place finish in Class 1A at the Bands of America Grand National Championships, competing against outstanding programs from across the country.

These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication of our students, the support of families and administrators, and the pride of the Murray community. We are incredibly proud of what this group achieved during the 2025 marching season

The MISD is appreciative of the continued efforts by The Murray Police Department to upgrade security at each respective MISD Campus. We are grateful for our MISD Resource Officers, Jeremy Partin (MES), Patrick Morris (MMS), and Mike Ray (MHS), for providing our daily protection.

The Murray Police Department has enhanced officer safety and school protection through state grant funding—without using City of Murray general fund dollars. Through the Kentucky Attorney General’s Body Armor Grant Program, MPD received hard armor plates, ballistic helmets, and three ballistic shields, one placed at each Murray Independent School. School Resource Officers also received specialized training in their use.

Additional funding from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security’s Law Enforcement Protection Program allowed MPD to purchase new duty weapons equipped with optics and weapon-mounted lights. In total, more than $145,000 in critical safety equipment was secured at no cost to the city, reinforcing MPD’s commitment to public safety and fiscal responsibility.

The MISD is very appreciative of the support of our local Murray Police Department and our MISD Safety Recourse Officers. Their unwavering daily dedication and loyalty provided to our students, administration and community each day is to be commended. #murrayschools
