MHS Senior Awarded U of L Book Award

Emily Burditt with Tony Jarvis, MHS Principal

Each year, the University of Louisville recognizes outstanding juniors across the commonwealth and southern Indiana who show academic promise, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to civic engagement. This award is endowed by the family of Mr. John Yarmuth, a Yale graduate, a successful businessperson and most currently, the third Kentucky District Congressman. The award was created by the family to honor their father for providing their family with one of the greatest gifts of all---the desire to learn. Each award recipient demonstrates this desire to learn through their various academic and extra-curricular activities, while excelling in the top twenty percent of his or her class.

The book selected to award for 2021- "Hurry Please I want to Know", is by author, Paul Griner, a former Fulbright Scholar teaches Creative Writing and Literature courses in the University of Louisville's English Department.

This book was the 2016 Kentucky Literary Award Winner and received Honorable Mention for the 2016 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Award in Short Stories.

Burditt is the daughter of Mary and Keith Burditt, Murray.
