Murray Elementary School kindergarten students in Nancy Newsome's class recently read the book Mayday! Mayday! A Coast Guard Rescue by Chris L. Demarest. As a review of the book, students drew depictions of the performance of the Coast Guard members that included saving individuals from drowning.

As a special for the class in collaboration of the Coast Guard, Murray State University/Paducah U.S. Coast Guard Marine Science Technicians visited Newsome's Class. During their presentation, the Coast Guard members described to students their daily roles. Members also brought students goodie bags that included Coast Guard coloring books, crayons, and a snack.

Newsome extended her appreciation to the Coast Guard members. "The kids thoroughly enjoyed the visit and it was a great tie-in to our study on the Coast Guard," she said. "We send our heartfelt thanks."
