MHS Announces 2023 Kentucky Governor's Scholar Program Recipients

MHS Names 2023 GSP Recipients

The Murray High School Guidance Office announced the 2023 Murray (MHS) Kentucky Governor's Scholar Program (GSP) Recipients: (photo from left) Lincoln English, Ashley Vonnahme, Derryauna Hudspeth, Jack Richey, Miles Mitchell, and Ewin Porter, have been selected as the 2023 recipients of the summer residential program for outstanding Kentucky high school students who are rising seniors. Over 2,000 applications are received at the state level each year, with approximately 1,000 students selected to attend.

This year's Governor Scholars will meet at one of three Kentucky universities this summer for the five-week program at one of the following sites: Centre College, Morehead State University, and Murray State University.

Governor Scholars are selected from across Kentucky and represent the diversity of the Commonwealth. The program is singularly free from competition, creating an environment that is conducive to building a community of friends and colleagues. The program offers Scholars a chance to know and make friends with other enthusiastic, energetic students with high intellectual capacities. The give-and-take among Scholars from different backgrounds is one of the most treasured aspects of the program.

English is the son of Becky and Mark English, Mitchell is the son of Vyron and Brandy Mitchell, Richey is the son of Rob and Tina Richey, Derryauna Hudspeth is the daughter of Jamille Nored, Vonnahme is the daughter of Richard and Deanna Vonnahme, and Porter is the son of John Porter and Melissa Porter.
